Reference Index for Biblical and Hebrew Terms

I realize how confusing it can be to keep track of a large quantity of strange or unfamiliar terms, names and titles which often get used here. I’ve provided this reference source with definitions for an easy way to look up these terms when they are encountered.

I’ve tried to make it as thorough as possible but I will continually add to it if more should come to mind, or anyone inquires on something not listed here.

angel –

Term specifically referring to the messenger class of spiritual, heavenly beings created prior to humanity. Used in a modern context to refer generally to all classes of spiritual, heavenly beings.

cherub –

Class of spiritual beings having four distinct forms – humanoid, lion, eagle, ox. (plural: cherubim) Hebrew: keruwb.

chimera –

A term derived from Greek to describe any transgenic creature. Word originally applied to a particular transgenic which was part goat, part lion and part snake according to Greek mythology. Chimeras are termed “monsters” in apocryphal literature, referring to creatures derived from the genetic components of spiritual beings and animals.

demon –

Specifically a term referring to the wandering, earth-bound spirits of dead nephilim capable of oppressing, possessing and influencing living people. Generally used in a modern context to refer to any disincarnate malicious spirit.

giants –

The hybrid children of watchers and human women which were of immense stature.

gibbowr –

Hebrew word used often to describe descendants of various nephilim, literally meaning “powerful, warrior, tyrant, giant or mighty man.”

iyr –

Hebrew word for “watcher” meaning literally “wakeful or watchful one, one who watches.”

malak –

Hebrew word for angel, literally meaning “messenger”. (plural: malakim)

nachash –

Hebrew word for “serpent”, literally meaning “serpent, enchanter, or whisperer.”

nephil –

A person of human and angelic hybrid origins. (plural: nephilim)

raphah –

Demons which are regarded as ancestral deities and can incarnate repeatedly within a family line. (plural: rephaim) Hebrew: raphah, literally “to heal or quicken, a ghost, the dead”.

seraph –

A class of spiritual being (angel) which have six wings and can take the form of a dragon or serpent. Hebrew: saraph, literally “burning or fiery serpent”. (plural:  seraphim)

serpent/ dragon –

Either referring to the natural beast used by Satan to gain access to Eve and initiate human rebellion, or the class of spiritual beings to which Satan belongs (seraphim).

siren –

A spirit of a human female who was joined to a heavenly being in marital union during her mortal life. Capable of possession of living human beings and associated with bodies of water, they are known for specifically targeting men through lust and destroying them.

watcher –

A class of spiritual being (angel) which was charged with observance and study of creation, 200 of which rebelled in the transgressions of intermarrying with humanity and introducing forbidden technologies to earth. Generally humanoid appearance of large stature.

Anakim –

Hebrew: Anaqiy, descendants of the nephil “Anak” or “Anaq”, name literally meaning “choked, collared, strangle, encompassed by a chain, necklace.”

Armoni –

Fallen watcher who taught synthesized remedial medicine. From the Greek translation of his name (Pharmaros) is derived the modern terms Pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmacist, etc.. Hebrew: Armoniy “of the devoted or cursed”.

Azazel –

Fallen watcher who was an instigator of the rebellion of the 200. Taught the making and use of weapons of war and taught cosmetic enhancement to women. He is named as the being to which the released goat is sent to on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) to receive all the sins of Israel upon himself in accordance with the curse upon him mentioned in 1 Enoch “to Azazel ascribe: All Sin.” Hebrew: azaz +el “mighty impudence”.

B’nai Elohim –

Hebrew, meaning “sons of the mighty”, often rendered in translation “the sons of God”. Term of reference to any class of being or individual who’s origin is a direct act of creation by YHWH rather than a flesh and blood birth. Used exclusively in the old testament to refer to “angelic” beings in the general sense.

El –

Hebrew singular word literally meaning “mighty”, used in reference to YHWH or a lesser, created heavenly being. Often translated as “god”.

Elohim –

Hebrew plural word meaning literally “mighty ones” used at times in conjunction with a singular identifier to mean YHWH, or used as plural as a collective group of lesser heavenly beings. Often translated “gods”.

Enoch –

Antediluvian patriarch of the seventh generation. Son of Jared, father of Methuselah. He was a prophet who resisted the corruption brought into the world by the Watchers and who subsequently received knowledge of creation and the future through visions given to him by YHWH. He attempted to intercede on behalf of the rebel watchers and when that intercession failed, returned a message of conviction to the rebels from YHWH. Enoch was removed from the earth alive by YHWH prior to the flood. Hebrew: Chanowk “trained, instructed”.

1 Enoch –

A historical and prophetic text which was rejected from canon though validated as containing original writings of Enoch by Jude. Some material attributed to Noah also included in the text. General history of the preflood world, the rebellion of the Watchers and numerous parables and visions given to Enoch by YHWH, including many dealing with the last days. This book is not to be confused with 2 and 3 Enoch which are works written in much more recent times and which do not correlate to any canonical scripture.

Ham –

Son of Noah, one of three to survive the flood with him in the ark. Father of Canaan from who derived several nations of post flood nephilim as well as father of Mitsrayim, patriarch of Egyptian peoples.

Hermon –

Mountain on which the rebel faction of 200 watchers made a pact to enter into marital unions with mortal women and where they situated their headquarters while reigning on Earth. Hebrew: Chermown “seclude, devote, curse, consecrate”.

Ishtar –

Woman deified throughout multiple cultures under multiple derivatives of her name. Human wife of the watcher Shemyhaza, to whom it is said he revealed how to use the name of YHWH in ritual magic. She appears throughout ancient and modern culture as “the Queen of Heaven”, the mother goddess, the earth goddess, the Madonna. Often portrayed as a mermaid in connection with her status as chief of sirens. She is the personified “whore of Babylon” spoken in Revelation. Hebrew” Ishah+taher “pure woman”.

Japheth –

Son of Noah, one of three to survive the flood in the ark with him. Father of Javan, patriarch of Ionian peoples.

Jared –

Antediluvian patriarch of the 6th generation. Son of Mahalaleel, father of Enoch. The rebel watchers came to earth during his lifetime. Hebrew: Yered “descend”.

Lucifer –

Title ascribed to a chief fallen spiritual being in Isaiah chapter 14. Used in a modern context as a proper name for Satan though the title is neither a name nor describes Satan. Most applicably applied to a fallen Watcher, the Hebrew title is literally “heylel:, literally ” to shine or boast”.

Noah –

Man chosen to survive the flood with his family in the ark. Noah was chosen based both upon his willingness to remain loyal to YHWH and his untainted human bloodline which had not been mixed with nephil ancestry. Hebrew: Noach “rest”.

Satan –

Hebrew literal meaning: “accuser, adversary, one who opposes”. Chief of a vast rebellion of spiritual beings which took place in the heavens prior to the creation of mankind. “Satan” is not a name itself, but a descriptive title of the Seraph who led this insurrection and also tempted the first humans to disobey their Creator.

Shem –

Son of Noah, one of three to survive the flood with him in the ark. Patriarch of all Semitic peoples including Israelites. Hebrew: Shem “name, memorial”.

Shemyhaza –

Chief of the rebel faction of 200 watchers which transgressed in intermarrying with human women, begetting nephilim and introducing forbidden technologies to Earth. Hebrew: shem + ya’ah + aza “of the Name of power”.

YHWH –

Proper Hebrew name of the Creator, pronounced with vowel inflections “Yahuwah”, though often given as “Yahweh”. Literal meaning “self existent, or I AM”.

Yahushua –

Proper Hebrew name of Messiah, literally meaning : “the salvation of YAH”.

Deliverance From Spiritual Possessors

Deliverance from possessing spirits is a subject which seems to have been treated by the majority of churches in one of two detrimental ways.

The most common treatment of the subject of spiritual invasion in the Christian community is to avoid it entirely.

A host of excuses are offered up as justification for this when it is questioned such as… giving attention to such a subject is empowering to the enemy in some manner… giving Satan attention when it should be focused on YHWH.

Another justification is to say that such incidents are so rare as to not call for any serious concern, or that it simply Never happens in this modern age.

There’s surely no biblical foundation for the last two of these excuses for avoidance of the issue of possession.

Not only is there a pointed lack of scriptural support for the idea of possession being a phenomenon which faded into obscurity, but the end times are defined in terms of demonic and fallen angelic activity on earth.

The anti (or pseudo) messiah would naturally, himself, be expected to be possessed specifically by Satan.

I don’t think we would realistically examine the state of the world today and come to the conclusion that it seems like a world Less influenced by evil entities than it was in times past.

As for giving the enemy attention or empowering him thereby, I simply fail to understand in what way we advance the agenda of the enemy by becoming active in the freeing of his prisoners in the name of our Savior.

By what stretch of the imagination do we glorify Satan if saints are equip with the weapons of spiritual warfare in order to combat his tyranny over our fellow brethren?

It would seem this argument is a born out of a similar origin as the accusation itself would imply. A hesitation derived out of an ingrained fear of the enemy… a “leave the Devil alone and he’ll leave you alone” mentality.

Sadly there have been, and are untold numbers of, people who have found themselves in a situation of spiritual harassment or control from which they can neither extract themselves, nor find anyone to take them seriously enough to offer their help.

These individuals often find themselves taken advantage of by the predatory institution of psychiatry… forced to medicate themselves or to be caged like animals.

Their friends and family are likely to not understand the situation, and it is considered an indication of insanity in itself, or at least of backward ignorance if the term “demonic possession” is brought up.

Spiritual invasion and possession begin in sin… at times it is a sin which has not been committed by the victim themselves… but a sin which an ancestor gave themselves or their family over to.

Spirits hold human beings captive by way of legality, they are not empowered to simply choose anyone they wish as their physical host, but require that some “breach” has been made by way of transgression against YHWH.

As a piece of real estate… a “deed” is passed over to a spirit who has succeeded in obtaining that legal authority over a human body, and as children are under the spiritual ownership of parents… that child’s “deed” automatically belongs to the one in the highest spiritual position of ownership…the one “holding the deed” to the parent.

This should come as a warning to those who meddle in a life of consistent sin… not only is there the danger of coming under the control of evil entities… but the danger of passing those attachments on to later generations.

Regardless of whether the reason for the possession of an individual is personal sin, or generational (and those generationally possessed often carry on the same sorts of sins their ancestors did)… the attitude and approach of the believer to victims of spiritual harassment ought to always be compassion, not judgment.

This is not to say that we do not have an obligation to insist that a victim come clean of sin before deliverance takes place… but that we must keep always in mind that, but for Grace, we would be in no better circumstances.

Likewise, we should be ready to take seriously what a victim tells us is happening to them… I would rather needlessly go through the motions of deliverance, than turn my back on a person who genuinely needed help out of some prideful need to not be a “sucker”.

As mentioned earlier, there are two approaches to spiritual invasion into which many churches fall, that are detrimental to a correct way to deal with the problem.

Some avoid it… and others Revel in it.

What is meant by “reveling” in it, is that these groups tend to throw themselves into deliverance in a very ritualistic, sensational way which leaves one with the impression that the service being done for the victim is second to an “experience” for the one doing the deliverance (or for an audience).

The idea that casting a spirit out of a human being ought to come with a scripted liturgy of things to say to the spirit, a long list of inquiries which to ask, a great deal of yelling, screaming, head spinning melodrama… or that the event must be presided over by a specialized exorcist such as a priest… is all quite Hollywood and not biblical.

A sincere believer in Yahushua who is mature in their faith and a victim willing to turn to their Savior and repent is all that is necessary for the success of a deliverance.

Although there is certainly a potential for strange things to happen when dealing with a spirit being… generally you will not find that the event is packed with “supernatural fireworks”.

Deliverance should begin in pinpointing the transgression which gave legality for the possession to occur.

This should be followed by an assurance from the victim of willingness to change their life and give it wholly to Messiah… insincerity in this can result in worse outcomes than simple failure to cast the spirit out, this can eventually lead to a state of possession which is much worse, and the victim needs to be warned of this.

After this assurance should come an official, verbal renunciation by the victim, of all sins and ties which bind them to the spirit…

this is a prayer of confession before YHWH, and is ended in the name of Yahushua, by whom comes deliverance.

It is not a necessity to learn the name, the variety, the function or the number of spirits from the entity itself, as long as the lack of these points of information are not a hindrance to completing the deliverance.

The victim himself can more than likely produce an answer to what the spirit’s function is by knowing what area of their life is affected by it.

In a case where it is suspected that there are many spirits, and it is necessary to know if all of those spirits fall under one legal authority, interrogation of the entity might be useful, but should be pursued with cautious.

The same applies to the function of the spirit if the right of authority comes generationally and the root is unknown by the victim.

Manifestation of the invading spirit most often occurs at the point when the victim begins to confess and renounce.

At this point, the spirit realizes that his “castle” is about to be under siege, and he must commence some sort of defense in order to maintain his position.

This outburst often consists of an adamant and angry insistence of ownership of the victim… “he/ she belongs to me!” This outburst is mostly designed to derail the deliverance and stop the victim from completing the prayer of renunciation.

It is not yet time to deal with the entity… and the possessing spirit needs to be instructed to regress, and to allow the victim to resurface.

All instructions given to the spirit should be done in the name of Yahushua… He is the one delivering, not the human being who is speaking the words – and it is of great importance that this is never forgotten.

Commands by the individual conducting the process in their own authority (I command you to…etc) will most likely be met with failure.

This process might be the most time consuming… and there is a chance, particularly with multiple spirits, that the interruptions will occur more than once… but once the victim has completed the renunciation, the rest should not be terribly involved.

At this point it is a matter of instructing the spirit or spirits to leave in the authority of Yahushua.

This might be met with resistance… shows of hostility and threats, but the appropriate response is simply calm and firm insistence on the superiority of Yahushua’s power.

There is no need… absolutely none… for yelling and finger-shaking in the spirit’s face, or for childish insults.

Believers who feel it’s their right or duty to behave this way in the presence of an evil entity are behaving ignorantly and foolishly, and possibly endangering themselves and the victim.

We are never given authority to revile, demean or display hatred toward any enemy… human or otherwise, and to do so only puts a believer squarely in the camp of the enemy’s ways.

“They are presumptuous, self-willed.

They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries.

Whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Master”.

– 2 Peter: 10,11

“Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.

Yet Miyka’el the high messenger, in contending with the devil when he disputed about the body of Mosheh, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “Yahuwah rebuke you!”

But these speak evil of whatever they do not know, and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves”.

– Jude 8-10

The power of our Savior is sufficient to cast out every unclean spirit… He will never need our sensational shows of grand posturing to do so.

Scripture states that our attitude toward deliverance should not even include any rejoicing that spirits are subject to us… but that our whole rejoicing ought to be the knowledge that we are bought by Him with a price, not because we are better than the lost, or even better than a fallen spirit… but because of His mercy.

There is hope for the captives… that is assured by the fact that He came to set them free, and there is nothing He has come to do that will not be done.

No matter the severity of sin or the length of time which a victim has been under the control of a malicious spirit… there is hope in Yahushua for freedom and a real life set loose from the bonds of Satan.

The Alien That Isn’t So Alien

The secular world is “free” to pick and choose what they believe because to them, an opinion is as good as a fact and truth has no absolute boundaries.

As believers in unchangeable truth, followers of Yahushua have, more than any other group in the world, an obligation to be entirely objective when seeking an answer.

We aren’t after fantasies that fulfill our dreams, we’re after The Truth.

Regardless, as flawed as all people are, even believers forget to apply logic to their world view in some matters.

It is a matter strongly supported by evidence, but one which Yahushua’s people often do not feel comfortable approaching… the presence of “alien” entities in this world.

About 6% of all people claim to have witnessed a UFO themselves. About 1% have claimed to have actually been abducted…that’s 60,000,000 people who have claimed to have been taken by force by alien entities.

Add to this the multitudes of UFO depictions in art, photography and in written records from ancient times to this day, and what is arrived at is a point at which one must rationally admit that there is something to this.

An irrational religious objection will not bring us to any understanding, it will just give us a means to ignore something which begs investigation.

There are a multitude of sources who claim to have the answers and you will not have any difficulty finding many web sites devoted to the discussion of various “alien races”, often which cite that their information derives itself from either government agents or the aliens themselves.

I will remind readers, however, that it is no less irrational to formulate an answer to these things based on information coming out of a government you would not trust (and who obviously have a reason to veil the matter from public attention), than it is to dismiss the subject entirely.

It is also not wise to assume that the creatures themselves (aliens) are beings of such impeccable integrity as to their own nature or goals.

I would not recommend the vast majority of speculations or claims on who or what those beings are.

The most recognizable depiction of an alien is a “Grey”… that is, a frail looking, grey-skinned creature with a large head and big black eyes.

There is great evidence that such creatures as this exist, having even been photographed on many occasions, and being the most often reported creature type in events of alien abduction.

What I would disagree with in regards to the assumed nature of Greys though, is that they are alien at all.

They don’t derive from Zeta Reticuli or Sirius, or from any other far away place in the universe… they are natives to earth, though not natural natives.

The nature of the Grey is one of a fairly ordinary substance… a flesh and “blood”, and utterly mortal, creature who can be killed and dissected.

This has been done and has been photographed on occasion. Their remains have been recovered from craft wreckage and – though they clearly might have certain attributes that are advantageous against the average human being (such as telepathic ability or an ability to paralyze their victim) – they are not what one might think of as a really impressive specimen of otherworldly origin.

If we recall that it is no matter of science fiction that there exists an ability, even in the modern human world, to create transgenic life forms (creatures who are mixtures of two or more species), then we are nearer to knowing what is going on with the entity called a “Grey”.

Beings which are truly Alien to earth are beings which exist extra-dimensionally, and which can not simply appear at whim in the physical space and time wherein humans live.

It requires effort, and that effort can not be indefinitely sustained. This problem has always required a solution for those entities who would make contact here.

With the exception of the descent of the Watchers, who were permitted a certain liberty of physical presence in the earth, Aliens – who are exactly what people would call angels – have sought various means to bridge the dimensional gap.

One method has remained a favorite – and that is a well-suited, manufactured physical housing which has no contradictory, self-aware will of it’s own.

The fallen angels, in alignment with Satan, utilized transgenic life forms manufactured in the genetic experiments of the rebel Watchers.

Ancient Egyptian depictions of these beats/humanoid “gods” are the best known representations of the pre-flood occurrence of transgenic host bodies.

Now in this modern age we see Greys which, although they have a frail humanoid body, have heads which much more resemble those of insects.

The ancient images of the transgenic “gods” of Egypt also had their bestial physicality, for the most part, limited to their heads while their bodies remained humanoid.

Insects of certain species live according to a “hive” or “colony” consciousness.

A type of collective consciousness in which the New Age philosophy is deeply vested, is a group mind set which is actually a reality in bee hives and ant colonies.

This sort of collectivism is touted among the New Agers as a wonderful thing… a way we can all be “One”, and therefor more at peace with each other… but as we all know, hives and colonies all have their Queen to whose commands they are bound.

The individual with a hive-mind is of no great consequence to the collective, nor even to an individual themselves… which makes them very useful tools and, having no real will power, easy hosts for invading spirits.

The reports of Greys paralyzing their victims or displaying a greatly disproportionate amount of strength in relation to their size are aspects which also relate to insect attributes.

Ants are known for their ability to carry things which are much larger than themselves, and various insects are equipped with paralyzing venom.

The presence of a fallen angelic or demonic entity residing within a Grey host explains the repeated accounts of the use of telepathic communication.

In short, there is good evidence available to suggest that Greys are transgenic hybrids which are lab-created on the earth, and used on the earth specifically to facilitate contact between humankind and the real aliens out there.

What is often termed, the “accident” of a UFO crashing in Roswell is connected to a long list of incredible improbabilities for anything which occurred by accident.

Without going into the details at length in this article, the Roswell event occurred at such a precise geological location, and at such a precise time, that it could logically be presumed to be intentional.

But if we are dealing with a super-intelligent alien species in the Greys, one would wonder why there would have been dead greys pulled from the wreckage of an intentional crash.

Either they are given to suicide missions, or they are considered disposable by those who are actually in control.

It is important to note that in many cases of encounters with beings regarded as aliens (whether actually greys or not) …many have successfully halted the attempted abduction by demanding the entities leave in the name of Yahushua (Jesus).

Certainly we would not expect this method to have any effect if these creatures were simply extraterrestrial flesh life forms… we would however, expect this in matters of spiritual warfare against fallen angels and demons.

No matter what they might want you to believe they are… they know who He is and they fear Him.
